I confess that creating a brand of professional scissors for hairstylists, or rather image artists, was not my childhood dream – I wanted to be a footballer – but now I couldn’t do without it.

At first I was just a young boy who admired his father and wanted to work with him in the family business that sold dental instruments.

To my astonishment, father does not want me: ‘Go to the workshop first, but not here, you would get preferential treatment and learn nothing. I found you a place in a colleague’s company, he makes drills like us’. And that’s where it all starts.

And that’s where it all starts.

I have to take drill bits to Piedmontese dentists’ surgeries, and for an 18-year-old boy, I can assure you that it is not easy to be taken seriously.

I no longer count the doors in my face, I even decide to give up.

In the end I hang on just to test the first professional lesson my father gives me:

“Don’t sell a product, bring solutions to problems”.

I am actually angry because he did not take me with him into the family business and I want to show him that he was wrong and that he could have kept me in the business and helped me a little.

So I visit several firms without selling anything, just to understand the problems of the professionals.

They are all willing to give time to those who just want to understand something about them without asking for anything, nowadays it is rare to be listened to just for the desire to understand us.

Here is the second lesson I learned:

cutting tools, like drills, must be fast, precise and durable.

This is what a professional wants!

Since then I only offer drills of this type, obviously high-end, and I have been appreciated…

So much so that I created my own company: Pendragon.

I’ll make it short, because I don’t want to bore you, and I’ll skip a few vicissitudes that take me to Mexico and then open a new market.

One day, at the hairstyler’s, I see that the professional has a sore hand and I ask him why he doesn’t treat it.

“Eh my dear, it’s too late now… Too many years using scissors that are not suitable for my hand”.

And Dad’s words come back to me: I have a need to fill.

After all, I know cutting tools quite well, I certainly have some knowledge to catch up on because drills and scissors are different, but why not try.
